Most Popular Used Car – Buying a used car is now commonplace, the reason is that if you take into account buying a new and used car, the price ratio is very different.
Family-friendly MPV cars are still the main market interest. According to Carsome Insights, the Toyota Innova and Toyota Avanza still dominate the Top 5 most popular used car brands in. This Top 5 position is occupied by used cars of the Toyota Innova, Toyota Avanza, Daihatsu Xenia, Honda CR-V and Honda Jazz.
This is quite interesting because in 2019 the Toyota Avanza is in the top rank, ahead of the Toyota Innova. Meanwhile, Honda Mobilio and Daihatsu Agya have now shifted from fourth and fifth positions, replaced by the Honda CR-V and Honda Jazz.
1. People who want to sell their car in the post-PSBB era have increased by 52 percent
According to Carsome’s data, the difference in the age of the best-selling cars during 2019 and 2020 is quite significant. In 2019, the dominant used cars sold through Carsome are cars aged 2 to 5 years. Whereas in 2020, cars aged 6 to 8 years and over are sold to Carsome. This tilted difference in the age of used cars sold can be caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, which demands the public to maintain a stable cash flow.
2. MPV-type vehicles keep pace with sales of Compact SUVs
Entering 2021, the estimated trends in the used car automotive industry are still a topic of discussion. The presence of the COVID-19 pandemic is one of the big factors determining whether the trend of the last season can last in 2021.
With lifestyle changes, people tend to switch to private vehicles and not use public transportation to avoid contracting the corona virus.
MPV-type vehicles such as the Toyota Avanza, Daihatsu Xenia or Nissan Livina began to offset sales from Compact SUVs such as the Mazda CX3, Mazda CX5, Honda HR-V and Toyota Innova.
3. Tax incentives are attractive offers for buying a new car
On the other hand, the government has also implemented a 0 percent PPnBM tax incentive as of March for 4×2 passenger cars with engine capacities below 1,500 cc, including sedans, whose local content reaches 70 percent.
This could have an impact on the development of used car trends in 2021, considering that only a few cars will be covered by this policy. Carsome assessed that the trend that will occur in 2021 will see several changes.
4. The compact MPV is predicted to be the most sought after this year
In addition, the used car industry will increasingly receive a healthy supply and consumers will have more choices. Owners of new cars, i.e. cars from 2018-2020, who are looking for new, cheaper upgrades will also sell their current cars. Then there will be an increase in the number of “younger” cars in the supply pool.
