Jack Osbourne calls out 50 Cent's Donald Trump tweet (2024)

Jack Osbourne has weighed in on a social media post shared by 50 Cent, after the rapper sparked both criticism and praise over his comments on Donald Trump's recent conviction in a high-profile criminal trial.

On June 2, 50 Cent—whose given name is Curtis Jackson III—shared a screenshot of an article to X, formerly Twitter. The headline read: "BREAKING: Trump campaign has received over $200 million in total donations since the guilty verdict in New York."

Starting his caption with a grinning squinting face emoji, the hip-hop star wrote: "SMH don't worry the world's almost over just enjoy the moment and be happy." As of press time, the post has garnered more than 450,000 views.

Weighing in on the post in during Tuesday's installment of his family's The Osbourne Podcast, Osbourne asked his parents and sister if they had seen it.

His mother, Sharon Osbourne, and sister, Kelly Osbourne, responded by bringing up 50 Cent's ex-girlfriend Chelsea Handler, who is a frequent critic of presumptive Republican nominee Trump.

Patriarch Ozzy Osbourne commented: "Late-night people have been having a field day with this Donald Trump trial."

"You know why, it's because the only way people like their ratings go up is when he's in the press," Jack Osbourne responded.

After continuing to digress, Jack Osbourne returned attention to 50's post, saying: "To be honest with you, I don't understand 50 Cent's tweet."

He then proceeded to read out the X post in question before surmising: "He was being sarcastic about it then."

"That's what I thought," Kelly Osbourne responded.

Bringing comedian Handler back into the discussion, Sharon Osbourne said: "She took it that he wasn't [being sarcastic]. She took it that he was—"

"Endorsing him," her daughter cut in.

To date, 50 Cent has not publicly endorsed a candidate for the current election cycle. Newsweek has contacted a representative of 50 Cent via email for comment.

While Handler has not publicly spoken out in reaction to 50 Cent's recent post, Sharon Osbourne appeared to be referring to the reaction to the rapper attending an event on Capitol Hill last week. 50 Cent was photographed with Colorado Republican Lauren Boebert, and spoke with reporters, telling them that he saw African American men "identifying with Trump."

Freelance journalist Matt Keener, who has written for websites such as The Daily Caller and The Federalist, posted a clip of 50 Cent's latest remarks to reporters about Trump on X, alongside the comment: "Chelsea Handler is going to be pissed when she sees this."

Around the same time, a video clip of Handler resurfaced online, showing the comedian saying that 50 Cent couldn't vote for Trump because he is Black.

Handler made the comments about 50 Cent, who she briefly dated in 2011, during an interview with Jimmy Fallon on NBC's Tonight Show back in 2020.

In the interview, Handler asked Saturday Night Live alum Fallon: "You heard about my ex-boyfriend right, 50 Cent and his support of Donald Trump?"

Fallon asked her about an exchange between the two, saying that he had seen her "tweets" about 50 Cent, who Handler had previously referred to as her "favorite ex-boyfriend."

Handler said that 50 Cent, "doesn't want to pay 62 percent of taxes, which by the way, isn't a plan of Joe Biden's, that's a lie. He doesn't want to pay 62 percent of taxes because he doesn't want to go from being 50 Cent to 20 Cent."

The one-time Chelsea Lately host then said that "I had to remind him that he was a Black person, so he can't vote for Donald Trump."

She went on to say that "he shouldn't be influencing an entire swathe of people who may listen to him, because he's worried about his own personal pocketbook."

Handler told Fallon that she hadn't heard back from 50 Cent, suggesting that she was willing to give their relationship another try if he "publicly denounces" Trump.

"I am willing to you know, seal the deal in more ways than one if he changes his mind," she said.

50 Cent responded to the interview at the time in a post on X, where he declared: "F*** Donald Trump, I never liked him."

Trump was found guilty on May 30 of all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in connection with a hush money payment. The former president was accused of arranging a $130,000 payment shortly before the 2016 election for his then-lawyer Michael Cohen to pay adult film star Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about a sexual encounter she alleges she had with the then real estate mogul.

The money was listed in the Trump Organization's records as "legal fees," which prosecutors said was part of an unlawful attempt to influence the outcome of the 2016 race.

Trump had admitted to reimbursing Cohen, but has denied any wrongdoing, saying the criminal trial was part of a political witch hunt aimed at derailing his White House bid. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and also denied any alleged encounter with Daniels.
